The artwork has now been restored and the only complete version of the cyclorama is now on display in the new visitors center in Gettysburg, PA. They've done an amazing job not only with the canvas itself, but with the 3 dimensional aspects and sound effect of it as well in the show room. http://www.gettysburgfoundation.org/13/see-the-cyclorama-and-film

Hi Dan, enjoy your blog and especially liked this post concerning the Cyclorama -- I was able to view the Racławice Panorama
when I was in Wroclaw, Poland last year. Sounds as if the Polish painting is similar to the non-extant Gettysburg piece.

The boxing reference makes me recall Louis L'armour, who wrote at least several stories with portland / oregon in them. he makes reference to the albina boxing club. For a bit he lived near the library where he evidently spend all free time.

Good luck to your family! The Casey Institute is the finest eye institute in the nation. My nephew, sister-inlaw (a fellow employee of yours) and myself have been treated there. We are all lucky to live so close to such a fine hospital!

Absolutely fascinating. I wonder how I could have gone my whole life without knowing or hearing about this phenomenon at some point. I have to go back and re-read this post. Maybe I missed why it was called a cyclorama. I would have assumed it was for bike racing.
